Brighton and Hove, UK (and particularly the Brighton part of that city) is noted as a centre for popular music. Internationally known artists originating there include The Levellers, Fatboy Slim, The Kooks, and The Go! Team. Record labels based there include Skint Records.

There are a large number of pubs, bars and nightclubs in Brighton — over 300 pubs and bars according to a book of July 2006.[citation needed] Alcohol consumption on the street (other than in regulated zones directly outside licensed premises) is now banned in many central parts of the town.

Nightclubs include The Zap, The Volks Tavern, Candy Bar, The Honey Club, Legends, The Ocean Rooms, The Brighton Gloucester, Amsterdam, The Event, Charles Street, Funky Buddah Lounge, Audio, Revenge and Arc.

Live music venues (some of which also serve other functions) include Concorde2, The Brighton Dome, The Corn Exchange, The Brighton Centre, The Freebutt, The Pressure Point, Casablanca and the Komedia.

The town has also long been known as a "playground" for Londoners, and as such many famous musicians have made homes in the town; see List of Brighton and Hove inhabitants.
