Sir Nigel Sheinwald, KCMG (born 1953) is the current British Ambassador to the United States, taking up appointment in October 2007.
Sheinwald spent the previous four years as Foreign Policy Advisor to Prime Minister Tony Blair and followed the same pattern as his immediate predecessor in both posts David Manning in moving from this Downing Street role straight to Washington.
Prior to this position Sheinwald served as UK ambassador to the European Union.
He was educated at Harrow County School for Boys and Balliol College, Oxford, and is married, with three sons.
