From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Tiireni" or more appropriately, "Tiirenioluwa" is one of the names that the Yoruba people of West Africa, mostly in Nigeria, give to their children. The name has a unisex application as it is not seriously gender-specific, unlike some other names. The meaning of "Tiireni(oluwa)", is " This is yours, Lord/God or Almighty." The literal meaning is " This child or this person or this one is yours". It has been popularised in songs, as in a local gospel songs produced by one of Nigeria's internationally recognized musicians, Sonny Okosuns, where, he sang, "Tiireni Oluwa". The appeal of the name is that is ascribes the ownership of the child's life to the Almighty. And in an environment, where there is so much religiosity, the widespread appeal of the name could be better appreciated.
