[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello Nickhk, welcome to Wikipedia!
I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!
If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.
You might like some of these links and tips:

- Ask questions at the Village pump or Help desk.
- Use the Show preview button

- Be bold
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf melmac 12:45, 20 September 2005 (UTC).
[edit] Falklands / Malvinas
I'll quote myself :-) Please do not hesitate to ask for explanation/excuses, whatever User:Ejrrjs says What? 20:24, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi Dai. The main reason: it has been part of the mandatory schooling curriculum since a long long time (Argentine never relented its claim). You are taught that the islands ARE Argentine, and were taken by force by the Evil Empire.
The second reason: it was the only war Argentina took part in the 20th century (letting aside the declaration of war to the Axis in the very last minutes of IIWW and the participation in UN Blue Helmets). I was too young to be drafted, but I knew people who died there from my own town and met several veterans afterwards.
Sooner or later I'll write Falklands War#Cultural impact in Argentina.
So I think it's quite simple. What I really don't get is why would anybody else care! (but the islanders, ça va de sois).
Regards, User:Ejrrjs says What? 07:24, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Nah, I've got no bit of nationalism on my soul. In fact, I left the country in '02 and plan to avoid coming back, but for vacations. Nationalism as a topic is very interesting; I've read several works on the "imagined community" approach of Benedict Anderson et al.
- Regarding "Cultural impact" there is now a section stub, mentioning a newer film on the war, from our POV.
- Happy to know that life in HK is OK; I've met a guy from there just before the devolution that was deeply concerned about his future.
- Cheers, User:Ejrrjs says What? 20:42, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Percy
Hi Nickhk, it's sterling work you've been doing on Arthur Ernest Percival. I noticed that you reverted some of my changes, specifically making the ranks lower case when not part of a title, i.e. "He was then promoted to major-general" etc. This was based on my interpretation of a section of the Manual of Style. What are your thoughts? Leithp 15:10, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- What are your thoughts about putting Percival forward at either WP:PR or WP:FAC? Peer review might not get many comments, though the guys at WikiProject Military history might come up with something, but it can often be very useful for formatting suggestions etc prior to going for FA status. Outstanding article! Thanks brother Leithp for bringing it to my attention. Nickhk, please come join us at the Mili history project! Simply add your name to the members' list and this tag, if you wish, to your userpage. Needless to say, your article has my full SUPPORT should it be nominated for feature status.--R.D.H. [edit] Re: Arthur Ernest Percival
Good to know that the box works! We've created it only recently, so some of the syntax issues are still being worked out, as you mentioned. If you have any ideas for improving it or making it easier to use, I'd love to hear them. —Kirill Lokshin 15:21, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
I apologize for my late reply. I was away, getting meself a sunburn! Regardless, I will look at it soon, before the this week ends. __earth (Talk) 01:41, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Heh, I'd entirely forgotten I hadn't done that ;-) —Kirill Lokshin 16:04, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Arthur Ernest Percival footnotes
You can read an explanation of how to use {{ref label}} and {{note label}} to employ multiple references to a footnote here, or take a look at today's featured article, Gettysburg Address, which uses this in practice. I would have done this myself, but I use cite.php for my footnotes and am not as familiar with the ref and note system when it comes to multiple references. If you want to see an example of cite.php (in case you want to use it in the future), I used it when writing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, which also uses multiple references. Feel free to use whichever style you prefer in the future, there's no standard. If you need any further footnote help, just ask.
As for the image, that's a little tougher. You could try asking the uploader (if he's still active) to clarify the copyright status. If you can't determine the proper status, I suppose you could claim fair use or use an alternative picture if one is available. If you do claim fair use, be sure to add Fair use rationale.
By the way, good job with the article overall. I plan to give it a more thorough read, but it looks like you've done a great job with it and the references are better than a lot of FAC submissions. --Pagrashtak 02:38, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: FAC
Thank you for your message; I'll review it when I look at all the FACs again. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:30, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Congratulations!
Well done on getting Percival to FA status! It's really is an excellent article. I don't know if you're interested, but if you want to get it on the Main Page you should add an entry for it over at WP:TFA. Leithp 08:13, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

We hope that this new format will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new groups and programs within the project that they may wish to participate in. Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months. [edit] Portuguese Colonial War
Thank you very much for your copy edit in the article. Will you edit the remaining text? It would be great, because, as a non native speaker, I am unable to provide a better translation. Cheers! Afonso Silva 13:52, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
If you are going to copy edit the remaining of the article I'll finish translating it from Portuguese. However, don't feel like you have to do it. If you have no time, don't bother, or do it when you want, it's ok. And just one more thing, you may sign your posts with four tildes "~~~~" or by clicking in the signature button in the edit bar. Keep your nice work! Cheers! Afonso Silva 14:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copy edit of Portuguese Colonial War
Thanks for making those changes. I copy edited it from a very rough English translation from Portuguese and I don't know anything about the Portuguese Colonial War. I had to make a lot of "best guesses" as I could not make sense of many of the sentences. Everything was in the passive voice so I didn't know who was doing what.
That first paragraph, especially, drove me crazy. And you cleaned right up. Very good. KarenAnn 20:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
