[edit] Edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Good work on the Science revert btw, just letting you know :) - FrancisTyers 18:03, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal reverting

Nice work :-). I assume you've seen Wikipedia:RC patrol? Dan100 (Talk) 19:06, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Very impressive keeping such a fast eye on Dubya; looks like it's going to be a long evening.... :( —akghetto talk 08:17, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

A very long night....looks like I'm gonna be up for a while.. - Nick125 08:18, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Nick, I saw your reversion of vandalism at Mansa Musa, and I was terrifically impressed to see that you're already tracking down the vandals on what is apparently your first day here. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! I'll look forward to seeing more from you, --Dvyost 19:20, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Revised this to take your busy day into account. Don't hesitate to move it to your user page, by the way. Again, fine work! --Dvyost 07:35, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Venture brother message

You Deleted one of my entries for the venture brothers, but it wasn't vandalism, In the venture brothers christmas special both Quizboy and one of the venture children both accuse him of being a closet homosexual. Why didn't you at least ask me before you did that. It just kinda insults me I guess

[edit] Ok..

If you feel that edit to that page was not correct, I do apologize for the error.

[edit] Um ...

In following up to your reversion to the New York Islanders site, did you actually take the trouble to trace that external link? I just did so -- it's a slow morning -- and it seems to be an outstanding website, full of comprehensive information and commentary. The draft recaps alone are enough for serious hockey researchers. Rather than focusing on sheer reversion counts, perhaps it would serve Wikipedia better for you to ensure that what you're labelling as vandalism actually is vandalism first. RGTraynor 14:20, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm trying, ok? I'm trying to help out, thats all. I'm just getting used to figuring out whats vandalism, and whats not. I will try to be more careful though. Thanks for the heads up - nick125 (damnit, i still need to login on this box)

[edit] He-Man

Ah, I see you've discovered He-Man. Thanks for helping out! Since you're new around here, you might be interested in this page:

It lists a bunch of canned messages for vandals, among other things. The one I use most often is probably Test. Melchoir 08:19, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

D'oh, never mind. Melchoir 08:20, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Aah, I knew there was a page like that, but, I couldn't remember the name. Thanks for reminding me! :) - Nick125 08:22, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I see you've already been using some of the test templates. Well, carry on... Melchoir 08:23, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] That one was too funny not to save

Hope you don't mind that I added the vandalism I reverted to BJAODN. Some things are too wonderful to lose. Snurks T C 09:00, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I had a good time laughing at that one. hehe - Nick125 09:02, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Well done!

You performed well in my random acts of vandalism test, well done, 202.180.83.6 23:34, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User:Nick125/Templates:nbsd

Hello. I was wondering if you can remove the NetBSD logo from this template please. It was tagged with a license that does not make it eligable to be used commercially, which has been forbidden since May of 2005. Thank you. Zach (Smack Back) Fair use policy 22:21, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I didn't see that until today. Thanks for telling me. - Nick125 03:41, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I agree with what you said on Dick Cheney, but please do no vandalize Wikipedia to disseminate your opinions. Alethiophile 23:39, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

What? I never said anything on that page, I've only been reverting it from the vandals who are trying to destroy it. - Nick125 23:42, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The George Washington Article

I think we should get clear lines of communications here. It seems you have added the line "He was shot in the face with a bird" by reverting my revert. I don't know what your intention was, but I will take care of the GW article if that is okay with you. --OrbitOne 19:07, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I must have been trying to revert some vandalism, and probably accidently reverted your revert. If this is the case, I do apologize for it. Nick125 19:12, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism? Were you serious?

Why did you revert this edit with the edit summary comment "rvv"? Do you seriously mean to characterize my edit as vandalism? —Doug Bell talkcontrib 21:50, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Wait. Look at the history. I can't remember the revision at the moment, but, it was reverted a long time ago, before I even touched it. - Nick125 04:27, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
My apologies...it's sort of odd, but if you do a diff between your edit and mine, that's the only difference. I saw the page pop up on my watchlist and use the popup "sinceMe" link and just saw that diff. I'll look more carefully before I respond on the talk page again. —Doug Bell talkcontrib 04:32, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fred MacMeowie vandals

Hello Nick. I found your name on the ISP vandalism page, and thought I'd bring the following to your attention. Several ISPs have been screwing with the "Cat" and "Cat:Talk" pages for some time now, always with the same nonsense about some non-existent show called the "Fred MacMeowie Show". They are:

72.87.250.194 (already banned before for vandalism, but edited his "talk" page to hide this fact): http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3ACat&diff=124286110&oldid=124203280

66.214.57.69: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Cat&diff=next&oldid=123746572

76.174.134.16: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3ACat&diff=123689233&oldid=123688754

129.54.8.46: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3ACat&diff=123388051&oldid=123382260

71.105.143.174: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3ACat&diff=120882120&oldid=120872681

There are probably more; that's just the first page of the "Talk" history. I've never seen so many different ISPs involved in this kind of persistent and identical vandalism before, and I'm starting to get very annoyed with having to revert the same nonsense every day. What can be done about this? If there's nothing you personally can do, I'd greatly appreciate it if you passed this message on to somebody else. Thanks very much for your time. [edit] Investigating Albert Digaev vandalism

Hey, I'm not too good at using Wikipedia, sadly, so I was wondering if you could kindly help me out. If you could look at the history of the Albert Digaev article, and look at the vandalism edits of IP Address 76.214.5.110, I'd greatly appreciate it. Here's the corresponding whois: http://samspade.org/whois/76.214.5.110

Thanks, --Samian 11:49, 31 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:CVU status

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you!
