About me

I am the editor that goes by the name of Nicholas Turnbull; I live in Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom. Currently, I am studying Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at the University of Sussex. I am, amongst many other things, a project management and software development freelancer (q.v. "penniless techno-whore"), pianist, writer, peace activist, androgyne and general lover of the arts. I undertake none of these things with any particularly breathtaking competence, but I do always endeavour to do my very best in whatever I attempt.

I have been away from Wikipedia and other wikis for some time, lurking menacingly in the shadows; however, a reprise should begin soon, as I sporadically record the spoken Wikinews News Briefs hopefully doing more spoken articles here on Wikipedia as well. I may even fit in some photography at the Commons and, possibly, some article writing. I used to be quite a hard-core mediator, back in the day when I pretty much was the Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal; I'm not now doing anything much on that front but if you'd like the former Queen of the Medcab to help mediate somewhere, please do drop me a line.

Wiki-philosophy

A wiki is designed to be rewritten.

Consequently, some code of behaviour is necessary to ensure that this takes place in a manner that leads to some kind of improvement versus constant argument.

That code of behaviour is extremely simple:-

  1. Treat both viewpoints and contributors with respect and common sense.
  2. Hold a dispassionate view of all subject matter, regardless of your own view on the subject.
  3. Change anything that you see as being broken around Wikipedia in the most productive way possible.

Wikipedia's future

The Buddha said to Ananda, "It is like the case of a lion who has died. No creature that lives in the air, in the soil, in water or on land will venture to eat the flesh of the dead lion. Only the worms that are born from the body of the lion itself will feed on the lion's flesh. In the same way, Ananda, the Buddha's Law cannot be destroyed by outside forces. But the evil monks who exist within the body of my Law — they are the ones who will destroy this Law that the Buddha has laboured over and worked to establish for a period of three great asōgi kalpas!"

Userpage layout shamelessly nicked from User:Mindspillage, who'd nicked it from User:Talrias. Hacked to taste by yours truly.

My, how wiki coding travels...
