[edit] notability

This article was flagged for rapid deletion only five minutes after I posted the first stub. I'm responding as to why Nicole King is notable: She is a leading thinker in a hot field and she is a recent MacArthur fellow. -- LQ 17:50, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I have encountered the same problem in a very different context--there seems to be at least one person checking all people and business-related pages for the presence of the word notable It seems to be OK if you put in one sentence saying explicitly "She is a notable ..." --this is about as stupid a criterion as could be imagined. I think that MacArthur fellows are probably all of them notable: if they weren't publicly known before, they surely will be after they've received the award. I'll add this comment to an ongoing discussion at WP:Notability & Wikipedia:Notability (academics) . I was looking for some safe category below the Nobel Prizes & this should do.
