Nicos Anastasiades (born on 27 September 1946 in Pera Pedi, Limassol, Cyprus) is a Cypriot politician who is the current political leader of the right wing political party DISY (the Democratic Rally).
Anastasiades was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1981 and has been leader of his party since the 8th of June 1997. Very frequently, Anastasiades is negatively characterised by many Cypriots for his aggressive character, his doubtful integrity and his manipulating abilities. Also there are some rumours that he had a connection with the coup d'etat against President Makarios that took place on the 15th of July 1974.
He is a lawyer by profession and he is the Founder and Senior Partner of the Law Firm of NICOS CHR. ANASTASIADES & PARTNERS[1]. He graduated in law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed postgraduate studies in shipping law at University College London (University of London).
