[edit] Character History
Nicola Prendergast was a business partner of Niamh's during her last years on Fair City.
When Paul Brennan met Nicola Prendergast, he began a relationship with her, but he soon became infatuated with Helen Doyle and the two of them had an affair. Nicola was shocked to find them in bed together in her house. Consequently, Nicola slept with Donal Maher to get even. Paul eventually forgave her and they got married. When Nicola told Paul that she was pregnant, Paul admitted that he was the father of Helen's child. Disgusted by this latest revelation, Nicola threw Paul out and filed for a divorce. Helen later died in a car accident, causing Nicola and Paul to rekindle their friendship.
[edit] Blue Dolphin
Nicola and Paul set up a computer business, Blue Dolphin, with Donal Maher and Niamh Cassidy as their associates. When the company merged with Industrial Illusions, their representative, Conor, wanted to downsize Blue Dolphin, getting rid of Niamh in the process. Donal objected and Niamh's job was saved.
After Blue Dolphin ended its merger with Industrial Illusions, Nicola decided to work as a freelancer, while the others continued running Blue Dolphin. When Niamh finds out that Nicola had a one-night stand with Paul, Nicola and Niamh become rivals. As the years pass, Niamh and Nicola end their rivalry and soon become best friends, after Niamh helps Nicola get through her ordeal of surviving breast cancer.
When Nicola discovers that Donal was having an affair with her sister, Phillippa, she is horrified and throws them out. As a result, working in Blue Dolphin proved to be impossible and the computer business was destroyed. Nicola and Niamh then set up their own computer business, Phoenix.
[edit] Departure
Phillippa returns and begs Nicola to forgive her, as Donal has two-timed her with a younger woman. Nicola eventually forgives her sister and decides to make a new start in Cork, so she leaves Carrigstown.
