Nicholas "Nick" Smith (born August 27, 1984) is an Australian rules footballer with the Box Hill Hawks of the Victorian Football League, formerly with the AFL's Melbourne Football Club.
Recruited from the Norwood Football Club in the 2002 AFL Draft, Smith debuted in 2003 for Melbourne, playing 3 games for the season and having little game time or impact.
In 2005, Smith started in the VFL with Sandringham but suffered a knee injury which ended his season prematurely.
2006 saw Smith have another quiet year, but with the injury to Mark Jamar, Smith was suddenly recalled for the semi-final match against Fremantle.[1] It was Smith's first AFL game in 3 years, but he could only manage 3 hitouts, as the Demons were knocked out of the finals.
Smith was delisted by the Demons at the end of the 2006 season.[2]
[edit] Trivia
- He is nicknamed "426" across various fan sites, due to his tendency to be a 4-6 week proposition on the club's injury list.[3]
