Nick Sandhu

Hagurnek ("Nick") Sandhu (born January 26, 1962 in Jamsher Khas, India) is a former field hockey defender.

Sandhu participated in two consecutive Summer Olympics for Canada, starting in 1984. After having finished in tenth position in Los Angeles, California, the resident of Vancouver, British Columbia ended up in eleventh place with the Men's National Team in the Seoul Games.

At the Hockey World Cup in 1990 Sandhu was involved in a serious accident on the pitch, in the match between Canada and Ireland. Sandhu, the Canadian deep defender had the ball under control and was in the process of hitting to clear. When Jimmy Kirkwood dived low from the left to tackle he got badly hit by Sandhu's follow through. Kirkwood's cheekbone was fractured and needed fifteen stitches.
