Nicholas "Nick" Pepper is a fictional character from the ABC series Ugly Betty. He is played by actor Max Greenfield.
[edit] Background
Nick is the personal assistant to Alexis Meade, the co-editor-in-chief of MODE magazine, and he usually follows whatever orders Alexis gives him. The first time they met, this perpetual frat boy told Alexis' brother Daniel Meade that he was his role model.
Nick is very annoying and talks too much, mostly about himself. He believes that he is better than everyone else at work, thus making him unpopular with the other assistants and employees. He also has a tendency to scratch his chin when someone is lying, occasionally shouting "Jimmy Hill!" in reference to the popular football pundit's overly large chin.
Among the employees annoyed with Nick is receptionist Amanda Sommers, whom Nick will harass at her desk. Nick and Amanda immediately became adversaries, particularly because he wasn't interested in going out with her. Amanda also thinks Nick is full of himself and believes that Alexis needs someone who is better qualified for the assistant job, namely herself. So using the same tactics that she used unsuccessfully to try and take Betty's job, Amanda attempts to strongarm her way into forcing Nick out of his job by convincing Alexis that she should employ her instead of Nick.
Nick also has a dislike for anyone "geeky", especially Betty Suarez, who took his yogurt from the staff refrigerator by mistake, and Henry Grubstick. Nick's dislike for Henry culminated in a jousting match, after Nick knocked Betty off a mechanical bull during the Secretaries day party at a medieval restaurant. In the end Betty, upset over Nick's attitude, did what every one who hates him at MODE would love to do to him, she hit him in the face with a staff at the restaurant and got respect at work for putting him in his place.
In the second season, the rivaly with Amanda continues. Nick develops a dislike for Amanda's dog Halston, saying that her pet smells and after seeing that Amanda used all the paperclips on Halston, he has security remove the dog from the offices. But his dislike soon turns to passion when the two start kissing while they are on opposite sides in the paintball match in "Bananas for Betty."
