Nick Naylor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nick Naylor is the protagonist in satirist Christopher Buckley's 1994 novel Thank You for Smoking. In the novel, Naylor works in public relations as chief spokesman and vice president of the Academy of Tobacco Studies, Washington's tobacco lobby.

Naylor also appears in two other of Buckley's novels. In 2002's No Way to Treat a First Lady, Naylor does public relations work for entertainer Babette Van Anka and her husband Max Grab. The novel takes place years after Thank You for Smoking. In another of Buckley's novels, 2004's Florence of Arabia: A Novel, Naylor is mentioned as the person that trained Rick Renard, this book's public relations specialist, in the art of spin.

In the 2006 movie adaptation of Thank You for Smoking, Nick Naylor is also the protagonist and is played by Aaron Eckhart.

After the success of the film, it was announced that NBC is working to turn Thank You for Smoking into a television series. In the show, Naylor would work in PR for different companies that have a bad reputation. It has not been mentioned whether Eckhart will reprise his role as Naylor or when the show will premiere.
