Nick Garratt

Nick Garratt is a very successful Australian rowing coach. He started of his coaching career in Western Australia and after 20 years has now settled down as Mosman Rowing Club's Head Coach.

Domestic Head Coach: Haberfield Rowing Club (now UTS) NSW sculling coach-Qld/NSW State of Origin series- Robert Jahrling, Jason Tutty, Katherine Cordery Junior double sculls Geoff and James Stewart, Jason Tutty, Rob Walker Australian Champions in lightweight pair and four.

International 2 athletes selected for 1991 World championships in Vienna 1991 Coach Australian under 23 Double Scull, Trans Tasman Series Waikato NZ. Three races- three wins Brian Humphris, Alastair McLachlan April 1992 - 1995

Talent ID Coach Accept position of Talent ID Coach at WA Institute of Sport & Wesley College development coach. Duties: to identify young talent with the potential to be selected for the national team.

Domestic WA Team coach Australian junior quad scull champions - first ever for WA Australian under 23 eight Champions

International 1 national crew to coach 3 athletes selected in National junior team for Junior World Championships in Poznan, Poland and also to race in World Under 23 regatta in Groningen, Netherlands. Double scull finishes 7th in Under 23 regatta- athletes aged just 16 & 17. Salmonella poisoning struck the Poznan regatta- no racing for my athletes at world juniors. These were the first junior scullers ever selected from WA into the National junior team

Domestic WA Team coach Australian junior Champions in men's single scull- (1st & 2nd place), double scull and quad scull. All national junior events won by my athletes. First ever wins in single and double by WA

International 4 athletes selected for national teams. 2 national crews to coach. Gold Medal: men's single scull -World Junior Championships, Strathclyde, Stuart Reside - first ever Gold in this event for Australia. Gold Medal: men's double scull -World Junior Championships, Strathclyde, Tim Perkins, Jono Fievez -first ever Gold in this event for Australia.

Domestic WA Team coach Australian Junior champion in women's single scull. Amber Bradley- first time for WA. Australian Schoolgirls single scull champion. Amber Bradley- first time for WA. Australian under 23 champion in single scull (1st & 2nd in this event) and double scull Stuart Reside, Jono Fievez- first time for WA. Australian under 23 Lightweight champions in single scull and double scull. Glen Loftus, Will Bird- first time for WA. Australian under 23 eight champions.

International 6 athletes selected for national teams. 3 national crews to coach. Gold Medal - women's single scull - World Junior Championships, Hazewinkel, Belgium- Amber Bradley. Silver Medal Lightweight Double scull - World under 23 Regatta, Milan -Karl Parker, Glen Loftus. 5th place men's quad scull World under 23 Regatta, Milan. Tim Perkins, Justin Sires, Peter Hardcastle, Matt O'Callaghan.

Head Coach Head Coach at two week training camp at Jatilihur, Indonesia on behalf of FISA/SE Asian Rowing Federation. Attended by 120 athletes from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar.

Domestic WA Institute of Sport acting Head Coach 12 months, WA Team coach Australian senior champions double scull - 1st ever for WA. Stuart Reside, Tim Perkins- defeated then current World Bronze medallists Duncan and Marcus Free. Australian under 23 single sculls champion.

International 6 athletes selected in national team. 3 national crews to coach. Gold medal Men's quad scull - World under 23 regatta - Ioannina, Greece- Stuart Reside Shaun Coulton, Peter Hardcastle, Marty Inglis 1st ever for Australia. 4th place men's single scull - World under 23 regatta - Ioannina, Greece. Matt O'Callaghan. 5th place men's quad scull - World Senior Championships, Cologne, Germany - this was our under 23 crew with Matt O'Callaghan replacing the injured Shaun Coulton.

Domestic WA Team coach Australian senior champions - quad scull - 1st ever for WA Stuart Reside, Jono Fievez, Ron Snook, Tim Perkins. Australian under 23 champions - double scull Fievez, Perkins. Australian under 23 champion single scull (1st & 2nd place) Fievez, Perkins. Australian Champion Eight (Kings Cup) - 1st win for WA in this event for 26 years.

International 7 athletes selected in National team. 1 national crew to coach. Gold medal quad scull Commonwealth regatta London Ontario. Bronze Medal - quad scull - World senior championships 't Catherine', Canada- Australia' first ever men's quad scull medal at World Championships. Duncan Free, Stuart Reside, Jason Day Peter Hardcastle.

International 5 athletes selected in national team - 2 in Olympics. 1 national crew to coach. 4th place men's quad scull - Sydney Olympics Duncan Free, Stuart Reside, Jason Day, Peter Hardcastle. April 2001: accept position of Senior Coach at New South Wales Institute of Sport- Sydney

On my departure from West Australia the number of athletes selected for National junior, under 23 and senior teams had risen from 3 in the first year of my arrival in 1992, to 20 in 2001

Domestic NSW Team coach Australian champions women's coxless pair. Kristina Larsen, Emily Martin. Australian champions women's coxless four. Larsen, Martin, Jodi Winter, Liane Fenwick. Australian champions men's double scull Peter Hardcastle, Tom Laurich defeat Duncan and Marcus Free.

International 5 athletes selected in national team. 3 national crews to coach. Gold medal Women's eight Henley Royal Regatta co-coach. Silver Medal Women's eight World Cup Munich co-coach. Gold Medal Women's eight - World Championships Lucerne, Switzerland co-coach - first ever for Australia. 4th place women's pair - World Championships Lucerne, Kristina Larsen, Emily Martin. 8th place women's double scull - World Championships Lucerne, Monique Heinke, Dana Faletic.

Domestic Jahrling/Laurich defeat Tomkins and Ginn in coxless pair at National Selection Regatta - their 1st ever defeat as a pair

International 3 athletes selected in National team. 3 national crews to coach - eight, coxed pair, coxed four. Silver medal men's eight World Cup, Munich. men's reserve pair - finalists World Cup Munich. Gold medal Commonwealth regatta men's eight Nottingham UK. Gold medal Commonwealth regatta men's four Nottingham UK. Only 3 NSW heavyweight men selected in senior team all from my squad - Jahrling, Laurich and Hardcastle. Bronze medal - men's coxed pair World Championships Seville, Australian men's team only medal for 2002 Robert Jahrling, Tom Laurich. 7th place men's eight, World Championships Seville. 7th place men's coxed four World championships, Seville.

International 2 national crews to coach. Silver medal men's double scull World Cup, Lucerne, Peter Hardcastle, David Crawshay. 5th place men's single scull World championships Milan, Duncan Free. 6th place men's double scull World championships, Milan.

Domestic Sweep men undefeated in final 10 races in Olympic selection regattas.

International 3 athletes selected in Athens Olympic team. 11th place men's single scull Athens Olympics. Australian reserve sculler Craig Jones. 12th place men's double scull Athens Olympics. Hardcastle, Brendan Long. Of the 45 athletes in the 2004 Australian Olympic Rowing Team, I have personally coached 25 eg Loftus & Cureton in Silver medal Lightweight four, Three Stewart brothers plus Reside, Szczurowski, and coxswain Toon in Bronze medal eight, Dennis, Jahrling and Laurich in 4th placed coxless four, Free, Coulton and Crawshay in men's quad, Amber Bradley, Bec Sattin and Dana Faletic in women's quad etc
