Nick Curran

Det. Nick Curran is a fictional character in the film Basic Instinct. He was portrayed by Michael Douglas. Curran is a detective, in an affair with the manipulative femme fatale, Catherine Tramell, portrayed by Sharon Stone.

Curran is a detective, based in San Francisco, California. He is in an off again, on again relationship with Beth Garner, a doctor. Curran is investigating a series of sex crimes, supposedly perpetrated by Catherine Tramell, a wealthy writer, who often releases books describing murders the same way they are committed in the actual crimes. Eventually, Curran learns that Tramell has plans on seducing him, and he follows along. The two begin a torrid sexual affair, as she uses her attraction with Curran to withhold information from him.
