Nick Bates was a fictional character on ITV's Emmerdale between 1985 and 1996 and returned again briefly in 1999 when ex-girlfriend Elsa Feldmann (now Chappell), mother of his child Alice returned to try and regain custody of their daughter visited him in prison where he had been since 1996 for accidentally shooting a poacher. He was portrayed by Cy Chadwick.
