Nick Bal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nick Bal is a United States Evangelical Christian pastor associated with the controversial Great Commission church movement and the Sam Brownback 2008 Presidential campaign. In late July 2007, according to the Brownback campaign, he joined the Iowa Pastors for Brownback Advisory Council as a pastor for Walnut Creek Community Church of Des Moines, Iowa.[1][2] Alive Campus Fellowship, a ministry of Walnut Creek, serves four campuses, including Drake University, where Bal is the director.[3][4][5] The Associated Press noted Bal's enthusiasm for Brownback: "People just need to know about him," Bal was quoted as saying.[6][7] In early August 2007, shortly after Bal became involved in the Brownback campaign, a scandal broke involving Walnut Creek lead pastor Tim Rude, who made anti-Catholic remarks in an email while attempting to bring pastors into the fold of the Mike Huckabee presidential campaign.[8] Brownback withdrew after the Iowa straw poll and endorsed John McCain for president, effectively ending Iowa Pastors for Brownback and Bal's involvement therein.[9][10]
