Nicholas Monck

Nicholas Monck ,(c.1610– 7 December 1661), was bishop of Hereford and provost of Eton. He was the younger brother of George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle.[1]

He attended Wadham College, Oxford. In October 1642 married the daughter of Thomas Payne, rector of Plymtree. Monck served as curate to his father-in-law, succeeded him in October 1646.[1]

In December 1653, the Royalist, John Granville, 1st Earl of Bath, appointed him rector of Kilkhampton, Cornwall. He subsequently used Nicholas, in August 1659, to convey a message from Charles II to his brother George. [1]

Following the restoration, Nicholas was rewarded by Charles with the positions at Eton and Hereford. He never visited his diocese.[1]
