[edit] The future

State and local government plan on building a new multi-million dollar intermodal transportation center out of the U.S. Customhouse to replace the current station. Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton are supporters of this project that has been discussed for over a decade. It calls for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to share with Amtrak a complex consisting of the vacant customhouse and modern additions. Construction is not expected to begin at least until 2007.
