Niagara, Toronto
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Niagara is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Canada, located along and south of Queen Street West; it is bordered by Atlantic Avenue to the west, Portland Street to the east, and Lake Ontario to the south. So named because Niagara Street runs through the centre of it. The area was formerly working class, many employed in industries located along the CN and CP railway corridors.
In recent years, it has seen an explosion of new condominium loft and row house development. The area is located close to the fashion and entertainment districts.
The Niagara neigbourhood inlcudes the grounds of Ontario Place, Canadian National Exhibition and Coronation Park.
Trinity Bellwoods Park is a large urban park where Trinity College once stood, but the park is located to the north of the area in adjacent Trinity-Bellwoods.
The area is also part of the Trinity—Spadina riding which covers a much larger section just west of the downtown core.
Some of the main roads in the neighbourhood include:
- Bathurst Street
- Tecumseth St.
- King Street West
- Richmond St. West
- Adelaide St. West (Portugal Square - at Bathurst)
- Wellington St. West
- Niagara St.
