NHS Health and Social Care Information Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NHS Information Centre for health and social care (The IC) is a Special Health Authority of the National Health Service (NHS) in [[England]. Its headquarters are at 1 Trevelyan Square in Leeds.

It was created on 1 April 2005 to take over the routine collection and publication of health and social care statistics formerly undertaken by the Department of Health, parts of the NHS Information Authority, and the Prescribing Support Unit.

The IC is responsible for collating data and producing a number of important reports that are used to make important decision regarding the provision of health and social care. Almost all health related statistics reported in the media will have originated from The IC - for example, statistics relating to drugs misuse, under-age drinking, payment by results, GP salary details, plus many many more.

The IC also provides information - often at short notice - that is required by Members of Parliament, and their reports are often crucial in forming health policy at all levels from local right up to those made by the Government.
