NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is a Special Health Board created in 2002. Its role is to help provide better patient care by designing, commissioning, quality assuring and, where appropriate, providing education, training and lifelong learning for the NHS workforce in Scotland.
From its starting remit covering Allied Health Professions, The Dental Team, Doctors, Midwives, Nurses, Pharmacists and Psychologists it has added:
- Audiologists
- Healthcare Scientists
- Healthcare Chaplains
- Finance Staff
- Administrative, Clerical and Ancillary staff.
Much of its core work focuses on support for the individual disciplines. However, there is a growing emphasis on taking a multi-disciplinary and multi agency approach.
