[edit] Requested move

Seyfert Galaxy NGC 7742 → NGC 7742 : propor name, goes with new rule of not naming galaxies with there type in the page : — HurricaneDevon @ 20:31, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Survey and discussion

  • Support: It's the proper name. Theres a new rule going around that astronomical object artical titles are not to have what the object is then it's name. [1]HurricaneDevon @ 20:31, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Yes! - I have always opposed these strange and incorrectly-capitalised article titles which include the type of object. Great to see there's a move to make sure they're at decent titles. Worldtraveller 20:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Support - I have always opposed these weird names, like Worldtraveller does. 132.205.44.134 21:38, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Done. —Nightstallion (?) Seen this already? 06:53, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, this is a bit late, but the other similarly named articles can be renamed too. I'm fairly sure we've got consensus without the need of more votings. (HD: NGC 7742 is a designation, not a proper name. This galaxy doesn't have one.)--Jyril 19:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments on 20 Aug 2006 edits

A few comments on my 20 Aug 2006 edits:

  • I removed all references to fried eggs. This looks like it was originally a comment on the appearance of an image of this galaxy that was extended into a hypothetical name. It simply was not appropriate here.
  • NED lists NGC 7742 as a LINER/HII, not a Seyfert, so I removed all references to this being a Seyfert galaxy.
  • The distance was unreferenced, so I deleted it.
  • I cannot get the image to display properly. One image was deleted. A second image can be found through the "What links here" link on the left. However, I had problems adding the image into the fact box. Help would be appreciated.

I have added the image and I hope it looks ok. Please refer to the code used for future reference.--Kalsermar 17:51, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
I think my problem was that I was trying to add the image name while filling in the spaces with "_" characters. Thank you for adding the image. GeorgeJBendo 18:42, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
