NGC 2438 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Puppis. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1786.
Visually, NGC 2438 seems to be within the confines of the open cluster M46 but in reality it is closer to us than the cluster making this a coincidental line of sight alignment. The central star of this planetary nebula has a magnitude of 17.7.
