  • Japanese cruiser Aoba sunk at Kure at end of WW-2
Description

Japanese heavy cruiser Aoba sunk at Kure, Japan. She had been hit by air attacks on 24 and 28 July 1945, resulting in her loss. Note the large hole in her port side shell plating, forward, caused by a 500-pound bomb that penetrated her forecastle during the 24 July attack by U.S. Navy carrier aircraft.
