NFA-LD is a form of competitive collegiate debate adapted from high school Lincoln-Douglas debate sponsored by the National Forensics Association.
The topic for 2007-2008 is: RESOLVED: That the United States Federal Government should substantially increase assistance to the Greater Horn of Africa in one of the following areas: economic development, human rights protection, or public health.
The format of NFA-LD varies from the format of team policy debate. NFA-LD debate is one-on-one debate (thus, there is no negative block) and follows the following structure (total prep time for each debater is 4 minutes):
First Affirmative Constructive Speech (abbreviated 1AC) | 6 minutes |
Cross-Examination of First Affirmative by the Negative | 3 minutes |
First Negative Constructive Speech (1NC) | 7 minutes |
Cross-Examination of First Negative by Affirmative | 3 minutes |
First Affirmative Rebuttal (1AR) | 6 minutes |
First Negative Rebuttal (1NR) | 6 minutes |
Second Affirmative Rebuttal (2AR) | 3 minutes |
