Coordinates: Neyyattinkara is a town and a municipality in Thiruvananthapuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. The name Neyyattinkara means the shore(kara)of neyyar. Neyyar is the river flows from Agasthakoodam, which is the heighest peak in south of Western Ghat of himalayas. Neyyattinkara is the major city on the bangs of Neyyar. Neyyattinkara lies 20 km to the south of Thiruvananthapuram city on the National Highway 47 to Kanyakumari. The ever growing Trivandrum city has almost reached its borders. Aruvippuram, the holy land of Sree Narayana Guru is an important pilgrim centre near Neyyattinkara. NeyyarDam is the beauty spot and tourist cente of Neyyattinkara at Kallikkadu panchayath of neyyattinkara Taluk. Neyyattinkara gave birth to renowned revolutionories sch as Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai, VeeraRaghavan etc...They fought for the independent India and against the monopolitical rule of Travancore Diwans. Veera Veluthampi Dalawa born and broughtup at Thalakkulam near Neyyattinkara. Neyyattinkara is the land of meny strikes and struggles. Middle of Independent strike British military attacked the strugglers with guns and bullets. Like Veeraraghavan so meny volunteers throw their heart in front of the military. It is a historically important town, which is famous as the hiding place of Marthandavarma during his wars. The Shri Krishna Swamy Temple, where Marthandavarma hid beneth a huge jack tree during his wars, is a famous spot in the town surrounded with water. Neyyattinkara and the neighbouring areas has a lot of cottage industries and handloom. Agasthyakoodam the highest peak in southt kerala is at neyyattinkara taluk. it is a pilgrim trekk place for years. agastya hills contains 35000 species of rare plants and 300 rare orchids. the climatic condition of this forest deserves evergreen. deep vallys, huge mountains, beauty water falls etc are the most attracting factors of agasthyar. wild animals like elephants, bear, buffellow are immensely rich in numbers. Agasthyakoodam means koodom of agasthya. agasthya is the saint in indian epics. he is considered as tribal god and the custodian of tribal medicines. koodom means living place. there is a story related to vindhya peak and lord shiva besides agsthya to resided here.

As of 2001 India census[2], Neyyattinkara had a population of 69,435. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Neyyattinkara has an average literacy rate of 82%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84%, and female literacy is 80%. In Neyyattinkara, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
