NexCen Brands

NexCen Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ: NEXC) is a public brand acquisition and management firm headquartered in the New York City, USA. It specializes in in the retail franchising, consumer branded products, and quick service restaurant franchising industries. It was established in 2006. [1]

NexCen's brands operate over 1,120 franchised stores in over 40 countries.[1]


NexCen Brands, Inc. began its current brand acquisition and management strategy in June 2006, when it acquired UCC Capital Corporation. UCC Capital was the premier provider of financing and strategic advisory service to companies with core assets in Intellectual Property, and its acquisition provided NexCen with a management team that had significant expertise in investing in brands, creating value in the brands it owned, and using a disciplined approach to investing its capital to generate high returns on investment. UCC Capital also provided NexCen with significant contacts and networks in each of the industries in which NexCen operates today.

Since acquiring UCC Capital Corporation, and under the leadership of UCC's founder Robert D'Loren, NexCen has successfully acquired brands in each of our operating segments. Today our brands generate in excess of $ 1.3 billion in retail sales.

  • November 2006: The Athlete's Foot, a franchised athletic footwear and apparel retail brand.

  • May 2007: Waverly (founded in 1923), a fashion and lifestyle brand in the home category. Its brand family include Waverly, Waverly Home, Waverly Home Classics, Waverly Baby, and Waverly Sun N Shade.
  • August 2007: Pretzel Time and Pretzelmaker, two franchised brands in the hand rolled pretzel category, acquired from Mrs. Fields Famous Brands LLC. [2]
  • November 2007: Shoebox New York, a multi-brand retailer for footwear, handbags and accessories.
  • January 2008: Great American Cookie from snack company Mrs Fields Famous Brands.[3]
