Explanations
Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia. We try hard not to bite newcomers here, but sometimes our explanations can seem a little terse. Let me see if I can expand a little. There are (at least) four issues here:
- Your username is inappropriate because it implies association with an organization, and possibly shared use. See Wikipedia:USERNAME#Company.2Fgroup_names and Wikipedia:Usernames#Sharing_accounts.
- Your user page (e.g. User:Newcityschool) is for you to introduce yourself as an editor of Wikipedia. People often explain what topics they like to write articles about, and what languages they speak. That page is not the place to try to write encyclopedia articles; use the main article space for that. See Wikipedia:User page and Wikipedia:What is an article?.
- If you are trying to write an article about your employer, then you have a conflict of interest. This does not prevent your editing articles on the subject, but it is discouraged. You need to avoid having your article come across as spam.
- Your school may not be notable enough to be in an encyclopedia. Please see WP:ORG and Wikipedia:Notability (schools). You may also want to take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools.
If you want to use Wikipedia as part of a class assignment, you should see Wikipedia:School and university projects and Wikipedia:FAQ/Schools.
I hope this helps. Bovlb (talk) 22:15, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- I guess the window for conversation has closed. My advice to you at this point would be to read the links I gave above, create a new account, and don't look back. Some more links for you: Wikipedia:Single-purpose account, Wikipedia:Your first article, Help:Starting a new page. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 23:25, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
