I was always under the impression that Newbottle was in Sunderland!? Fence Houses to the west (Sunderland), Houghton to the south (Sunderland), Doxford to the east (Sunderland) and Herrington to the north (Sunderland). Can anyone clarify? Craigy

It is part of Tyne and Wear. However, it was part of County Durham hence the DH post codes for the Newbottle and Houghton areas.
Newbottle residents pay their Council Tax to Sunderland City Council which is usually the acid test.
