[edit] Depots?

Okay, so who decided buses should be listed by the depots they operate from. Pretty esoteric. Also, coloring lines by the color on the map is not a great idea, as I remember not long ago, the colors on the Brroklyn map changed. Bus colors are not used for identification like subway colors. --Nelson Ricardo 18:15, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Why does it matter whether we color it or not? Also, if you have the time to write an article for every bus route in NYC, be my guest. Otherwise, just appreciate what we have now. On the other hand though, I am working on the NYCB Navbox template so instead of it saying the bus depots, it will say the routes and each route would lead to their perspective depot i.e. the Bx9 will go to Kingsbridge Bus Depot.

I Am Ri¢h! My Rich Contributions/My Wealthy Talk 2008-06-13 08:22 UTC

For what it's worth, I agree with the original comment that the organization by bus depot is highly esoteric. Ask 100 riders if they know what depot their bus came from, and 99 won't know. It's just not the way that most people would think about buses. With this system, if you want to find a particular bus route, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. The more sensible structure is by borough, with separate lists for local and express routes. I would not create a separate page per route. Having said that, re-organizing it sensibly would be a big project, which at the moment I am not signing up for. Marc Shepherd 14:59, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
That's a great idea, but I really doubt anyone wants to put that level of work in right now =). alphaChimp laudare 00:43, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
That's a stupid idea and requires work that most people would not want to do, if you want to do it, be my guest, I could care less. As for the infobox restructuring so that it lists all of the routes, but goes to its depots page for less confusion, that seems to be the best idea. Also another idea is to list every route that each depot operates right next to its link on this page (example: Yukon Bus Depot (X17, S61, S44, and etc...)). The only way that what Marc Shepherd said would be done most likely is if there's a Wikiproject for for NYC Transit, MTA, and MaBSTOA buses, which I doubt is needed or wanted. --I Am Ri¢h! 21:27, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
I am simply making the observation that the current organization makes no sense at all. The fact that it would take a bunch of work to fix, and no one at the moment is singing up for the job, is another matter entirely. One never knows when someone with a great passion for buses will show up on Wikipedia and organize the material more sensibly. Marc Shepherd 22:54, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
That's great that you observed how it's organized, go to Mrs. Fields and buy yourself a cookie, because the color of the "1" button on my remote interests me more. I doubt that someone that has a great passion for buses will ever join this unfactual, bigoted, and plain stupid website (you can argue it all you want, though you're just arguing the truth). --I Am Ri¢h! 23:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Given that that's your opinion, why are you here? Marc Shepherd 23:47, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
I only go here when I'm bored or when I feel like bashing this encyclopedia and and its members I don't like. My (and other professors, scientists, dedicated researchers, and etc...) dream is for this site to shut down and other more factual sites to take over again. Now let's see who's gonna start crying like a little girl because I said this so I could laugh my ass off at them. --I Am Ri¢h! 00:21, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry you feel that way. alphaChimp laudare 03:58, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

I've been working on new lists by borough, and in fact I am writing articles on most of the routes, though based on their streetcar predecessors. --NE2 05:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cost

Anyone have the low-down on how much MTA buses cost per? Historical cost per bus would be great, too, and I'd especially like to see data on how the ADA was implemented and its costs.

Generally new comments go to the bottom of the page. I'm not really sure where we could get this information. Any ideas? Alphachimp 19:02, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bus Rapid Transit

The feasability studies have been released on the website that is referenced. There are five routes that are being studied for feasability. Perhaps someone can pull that information and update the page. The BRT notes are most likely enough to justify a sub-page of its own! Rob110178 03:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

All pics, which were linked via the Commons, were removed from the article namespace, but are still available by clicking the Wikimedia Commons link at the end of the article. --AEMoreira042281 16:27, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

As you may see, a few pictures were moved back into the article, but not too many. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 03:30, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New bus route between Fordham, Queens and LaGuardia Airport

The MTA is proposing a new bus service between the Bronx and Queens, as stated in amNY. I don't think it is online yet, but one can feel free to check as it is currently in today's newspaper, amNY. —Imdanumber1 (talk contribs  email) 22:59, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism

This section feels unfairly biased against the MTA, and does not appear to discuss from both sides of the issue. As such, I have tagged it with {{POV-section}}. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 05:08, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

UPDATE: Section edited out. If there is a counter balance to the argument there, please restore. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 06:39, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox picture

In the past few visits, I noticed it switched between an Orion VII HEV, a whiteback D60HF and the 9/11 MCI coach. Could we sort of agree on something? Pacific Coast Highway {talkcontribs} 23:47, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

What type is most common? Do we have a photo of multiple types? --NE2 12:31, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
While my personal favorite is the D60HF, the new O7 HEVs are like roaches. They're all over. And they'll soon be the face of the fleet. Pacific Coast Highway {talkcontribs} 03:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I am leaving up the MCI coach for now. However, I am also re-adding pictures of various models to the article...it was my initial idea to move it all to the Commons, which was a mistake.--AEMoreira042281 (talk) 06:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Merge proposal

The article Buses in New York City basically covers all of the information covered in here and at the MTA Bus Company article. The information should be merged into each article, and then afterwards, I will suggest that article for deletion. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 16:05, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Merge may be a great idea, but deletion afterwards is not. Instead we should redirect to the merged article, to preserve the edit history, as required by the GFDL. Andrewa (talk) 23:22, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

The result of the proposal was no consensus to move the page, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 14:36, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

New York City Transit busesMTA New York City Bus — Official DBA name —AEMoreira042281 (talk) 06:06, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Survey

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Weak Oppose: The newly suggested name sounds too similar to MTA Bus Company, which is a whole other division of MTA. ----DanTD (talk) 17:08, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose. No evidence this is a common name (see below), and I'm also concerned about the grammar. This may be an exception to the normal rule about plurals. The singular just doesn't sound right somehow. Andrewa (talk) 19:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Neutral, leaning to oppose. Isn't the official name for the bus division called New York City Bus? If so, why are we using a different name for the article? —Imdanumber1 (talk contribs  email) 03:21, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Comment: The other articles for bus services are named MTA Long Island Bus and MTA Bus Company (which is what is listed on the MTA website). Why not call it by what the MTA calls it on the buses, as is done for the MTA Long Island Bus article? --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 20:23, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Any additional comments:

Official names don't count much in Wikipedia:naming conventions. What's the common name? Andrewa (talk) 11:52, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

The common name is MTA New York City Bus...which isn't the current name of the article, which I am seeking to rename the article to. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 16:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Google shows 3220 ghits for MTA New York City Bus and 6710 ghits for New York City Transit buses, which is too close to call but certainly doesn't support the move. Andrewa (talk) 19:44, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Weak Oppose: The newly suggested name sounds too similar to MTA Bus Company, which is a whole other division of MTA. ----DanTD (talk) 17:08, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I've copied this to the survey section above... that's what it's there for. Andrewa (talk) 19:27, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
My mistake. Sorry. ----DanTD (talk) 23:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
