Talk:New Waterford, Nova Scotia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What is up with the Substance Abuse section? To be fair, every town, city, state, province in the world has its own problems with "illegal substances". Why single out New Waterford for having a substance abuse problem? Seems wrong.
I noticed that this page had been flagged for questionable neutrality. As someone who used to live in the area, there are a few things I have to question as well. Are we trying to make a neutral informative page, or something that is supposed to denigrate the town? Some of the segments sure seem like they are intended to be inflammatory... but for the moment I don't want to touch anything until there is some further discussion.--CokeBear 01:42, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Bah. Be bold. I will edit all the crap out by Monday unless there is further input! Down with the causeway! WayeMason 01:04, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm a New Waterford girl and I would say I'm not a huge fan of the tone of this article.
I believe this article lacks proper research and referencing, is extremely subjective, and is filled with exaggerations that put a bad spin on a decent town in which i grew up in. If this site is supposed to be informative to people curious about our town, then whoever wrote some of the articles should get their facts straight before writing anything under the name of "New Waterford".
I was the person who wrote the above comment, and i'm very glad to see that some of the very disputable comments were filtered out, good job and let's continue writing proper reflective material.

[edit] Removed Neutrality Tag and cleaned up article
This article was pretty negative, even to a guy from GB, so I cleaned it up, removed some unfair criticisms, and made the rest more of a neutral point of view. Hopefully, its a bit better. I couldnt write too much about the specifics of New Waterford, as I think I've only been there about 3 times. Caper13 19:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Not a great write up on our fair town. I found it rather negative. Tried to edit it to become neutral but still feels it lacks that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Narleta22 (talk • contribs).
I"m sorry.....to be someone born and rased in newwaterford...at 25 years of age......i feel that there was nothing wrong with the intent message. New Waterford is gone way to far wit the substance abuse! New Waterford is a small town, and for that reason having a hudge probalm like substance abuse should be dealt with. Turning your back on such issues makes the problem worse and argusing about it doesn't help either. Obviously there is a problem in this town and for someone to sit there and say there isn't, well u must be one of them...or is dealing with denyal. I have lived here my whole intire life and a small portion of my friends currently right now in newwaterford could probably barely tell you their own name....so for ppl that arn't from our town to say anything...or even some of the older ppl or extremly young ppl to voice your oppinion and say that whoever wrote that should get their facts straight...in my eyes....it was 98% accuretly thank you very much...at least someone has the balls enough to actually raise their opinon on our small town issue. and for someone who isn't losing there friends and family to these issues......listen very closely......because this is life....substance abuse is everywhere my friends......not just here....and if ya can't deal wit it......and ya can't seem to talk about it...then your going to face a hard crewl world. It's just not here......it's everywhere...so for the ppl that wanna talk down about newwaterferd who aren't from here...take a good look at your own town! and for those there are from newwaterford...and u wanna express your feelings on our bull shit.......it's free world...and i dont think anyone should say anything about it because thats the way you feel. and for thoses who don't like it...don't come on this page...i know that you want to deffend your "so called town" because so do i, this is my home...but this is reality! get over it! and for another note, i know that some of you may be feeling that newwaterford is being singled out because of our small town problem; however, is that really fair to say, maybe some people just want to voice their opinions, maybe some of us just care and want the problem of our town noticed. So for people to sit there and say that anyone is downing on newwaterford, maybe them people should be heard, maybe they have a reason for writing what they write, and saying what they say. and for the people that are complaining that people are downing and sigling out newwaterford, maybe your singling out the people that want to be heard, maybe that is why we have such a hudge problem in our town becuase nobody takes the time to listen!!!!!! the end!WHITE POWER!
Hey! I'm a 25 year old who was born and raised in New Waterford and am currently living back home! I love this town just as much as most of the people but, yes...there is a major drug problem! People should talk about it, maybe we can find solutions to the problems. Something has to be done, and we should be heard, we can't shy away from the problem or sweep it under the rug any longer. If you live in this town then you know how it is. Maybe we all should just do what North Sydney or Sydney Mines is doin and start "taking back our town"!!!! - capergirl

- The dot might be off a little, but its not in Victoria County. Look at other maps of the area and you will see what I mean. I'll try to move it down a little, but the size of the dot is always going to cover a larger area than just New Waterford, so it will always look a little off.
