[edit] "The emergency law"?

This entry mentions the party's call for the abolishment of "the emergency law." Can anyone explain what, exactly, that means? -Dan 03:48, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Great question! Sorry it took forever for anyone to respond, but I'm relatively new to Wiki. Anyway, emergency law is essentially a reference to the general and official state of emergency that has been declared in Egypt since the assassination of the late Muhammad Anwar As-Sadat (the Egyptian Republic's third president), in 1981. In effect, this law prohibits "unapproved" mass gatherings or demonstrations, along with many other internal security measures that serve to control the political climate in Egypt to this day. For example, any group who wishes to express certain views in a peaceful demonstration must first go through an approval/licensing procedure, which must (naturally) conform to the guidelines and requirements set forth by the Ministry of Interior Affairs. I hope this answers your question...cheers! --How am I editing so far? Call 1-800-2GOOD4U! 09:37, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox

Template:Infobox Egyptian Political Party really doesn't seem to be working, don't have the patience to try to figure out the problem... AnonMoos 20:36, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I removed it until it is fixed. --Meno25 05:56, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
It should be working now, I'll put it back in. See the documentation for details on the new features. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:28, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sharia?

I have another question.

I'm aware that Sharia law, to the West, seems like a watchword of extremism. I'm also aware that the issue is far more complex than that, so this is not necessarily true.

Would someone more informed be able to explain what aspects of Sharia law New Wafd have in mind as inspiration? Mbuki (talk) 00:35, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
