[edit] Deletion
It does seem a little bit like a personal rant, however it also makes a good point and has many relevant references. I vote to Keep it after some modification.Rosser (talk) 20:47, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Currently it sounds very much like a newspaper article, and its long-term notability is dubious. Perhaps it should form part of an article on nutrition in schools? WA Burdett (talk) 02:27, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
What is the included picture supposed to add to the article besides representing the bias of the Mars corporation that Skittles are colorful, innocent fun? A picture of some obese diabetic kid unable to reach his insulin pack on the ground would provide an equally representative image for the schoolboard's viewpoint. Maybe it is there to get an article of ephemeral content to the top of the "Did you know..." list? If the article deserves a long term place, I'd say it should be rolled into a larger school/nutritionism subject Jkwala (talk) 03:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] How much longer
Til there's a nutrition gestapo? At this rate I'm thinking 18 months. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.72.21.221 (talk) 02:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Skittles, candy, and school suspension
Skittles have become part of a 2008 underground economy sold by student businessmen at a school in Victorville, California were they are banned.[1] Also, check out 20 Kentucky students suspended in 1984 for eating candy in school. The 1998 student candy suspension in Massachusetts.[2], A Sissonville High School student in West Virginia was suspended for pretending to snort candy as if it were cocaine.[3] There seems to be enough information to write an article on the Massachusetts high school students suspended in 2003 for handing out candy attached to religious notes. [edit] wow this is crazy!
seriously, i can't believe they ban this stuff! Total Rune (talk) 02:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I love the part about carrying large sums of money... skittles are what, 60-80 cents a bag? They make the children sound like drug dealears.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.74.193.174 (talk) 03:45, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sounds ridiculous
Yes I have seen this on the news, but I am wondering how Wikipedia-worthy this article is. The "Skittles Incident of 2008"? Sure, that's not what it is called, but you can essentially say that and it be valid. How ridiculous does that sound? Reminds me of The Onion. Could write about the incident as: "Twelve people have been hospitalized today after suffering severe wounds from New Haven's Skittles Incident. Reports indicate that these stealthy pebbles of doom, although tasty, in fact have a sinister intent. This was confirmed when a student had allegedly "spilled" the candies in a heavily trafficked hallway, bringing twelve innocent students to the hospital with injuries sustained from tripping or sliding into vending machines. No word on if charges will be brought against this student yet, however the school district has put the troublemaker on an indefinite suspension. Sadly, murder charges may arise if one female student, who sustained a broken neck, succumbs to her injuries." --Marsbound2024 (talk) 03:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sad...
How is this rubbish article still here ? I've had much more 'notable' pages than this be deleted for not being notable enough. At least be consistent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gresszilla (talk • contribs) 04:55, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

- Totally agree, wow.. this is just a waste of time.. --Zer0~Gravity (Roger - Out) 06:14, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Interesting...
I'm not that into Wikipedia so I don't really know if it's "worthy" or not; but I found it interesting. It brings up some controversial issues that obviously need to be discussed and resolved. My vote would be to group it into a school/nutrition/policy group. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.221.74.213 (talk) 05:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Great article
Good job. What a great article. Well referenced and well written; not far from being a Good Article. Could use some section breaks though. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:36, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Delete - even if well written!
This thing happens continually in Australian schools and do we make a great song and dance of it, as well as write a Wikipedia article? The fact that the US media has picked it up reflects on the trivia of the US media, not on the notability of the subject matter! Nobody will know or care about this in six weeks time. I note that it has gone to AfD and been defeated on the basis of no consensus. I reckon we should try again in a few weeks time. It's downright embarrassing - especially now it has appeared on the front page. Gillyweed (talk) 06:44, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- It will either be kept as is, or be the start of a larger zero tolerance in schools page, or both. I've never read a well written/refernced article on ZT in australia, can you link me to any? - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:52, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- Terrific. I'd be quite keen for it to be put into a larger article about ZT. But it's not notable as a stand alone article. I'd have to do some hunting about ZT in Australia, but as I say, someone being suspended for breaking school rules is hardly notable here. I shall have a look and get back to you. - best. article. evar. also, merge into "list of funny things that happened on the way to the graduation forum". 24.61.13.93 (talk) 07:17, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lifetime supply?
with his lifetime supply, shouldn't he bring in pounds upon pounds of candy to school every day and give it away for free? the article notes that there is a loophole concerning free distribution of candy. that's what i would do...
