Newtown United Football Club is a Saint Kitts and Nevis football club from Basseterre. They currently play in the Saint Kitts and Nevis Premier Division. Newtown United were originally called Zip Side and won the Third Division under that name in 1973 before changing to their current name; they were relegated as such to then Third Division but regained their Second Division place and were promoted to the top level in 1975 after beating Superstars 2-1 in a playoff They also won their respective championship in 2006-2007.

[edit] The Beginning

The Zip Tide Football Team was formed with Leroy Ponteen and Earl Clarke among the early mavers and shakers to ensure participation in the Third (3rd) Division. Zip Tide secured its first win in its first game and went on to get promoted to the second (2nd) Division. After the promotion the team's name was changed to Newtown United to encourage wider community supporters and a more representative team.

The club represented St.Kitts in St.Martin and won the championships three (3) consecutive years 1987 -1988 -1989 without losing a single game. Winning 7 and drawing 1 in the eight (8) games that were played. Three (3) in 87, Three (3) in 88 and Two (2) in 89.
