Newtown is a locality situated on Pitfield Road (Lismore - Scarsdale Road) in Golden Plains Shire, 144 km north-west of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia.

A rail trail follows the former railway line from Ballarat to Skipton, and crosses the Woady Yallock Creek on the nearby Nimons Trestle Bridge, which is one of the largest timber trestle bridges in Victoria.[2]

The former recreation reserve, Newtown Cricket and Mustering Reserve, is currently unused. The surrounding grassland is classified as a biodiversity reseve by the Ballarat Environment Network.[3]

Gold Bus Ballarat operates a school bus (route 34) departing from Newtown at 7.50 am to Bray Raceway, Ballarat and stopping at Sebastopol College[4]
