Newton W. Nutting

Newton Wright Nutting (October 22, 1840 - October 15, 1889) was a U.S. Representative from New York.
Born in West Monroe, New York, Nutting pursued an academic course. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and practiced in Oswego, New York. He served as member of the school committee of Oswego County from January 1, 1864, to January 1, 1867. He served as district attorney of Oswego County from January 1, 1869, to January 1, 1872. County judge of Oswego County from January 1, 1878, until March 4, 1883, when he resigned.
Nutting was elected as a Republican to the Forty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1885). He resumed the practice of law in Oswego.
Nutting was elected to the Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses and served from March 4, 1887, until his death in Oswego, New York, October 15, 1889. He was interred in Riverside Cemetery.
