Newman Club (rugby)

Newman Club is a rugby union club, founded 15th December 1979 in Benavidez, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It competes in the first division of the URBA championship. Notable rugby players who got their start in Newman include Cristian the "Orc" Viel, Agustín Canalda, Francisco Irrarázabal, the Contepomi brothers (Felipe and Manuel), and Marcos Ayerza. In 2004, Newman reached the URBA semi-finals, one of its most important achievements.

Most of Newman Club players originated from Cardinal Newman College, a Bachelor degree institute, located in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, founded by the order of The Christian Brothers. This congregation member of the Roman Catholic Church, arrived to Argentina with a mission: Fight the Good Fight (in Latin: Certa Bonum Certamen). Educate men with the vision of its founder, Edmund Ignatius Rice 1762-1844. Honesty, loyalty, solidarity, and deep moral values; give them the strength to fight for good causes, with honor and moral integrity.
