Newbury Building Society is a building society based in Newbury, Berkshire in the south of England. 'The Newbury' (as it is affectionately known) was established in 1856 [1] and is one of the oldest surviving building societies in the United Kingdom [2], with nine branches in Newbury, Hungerford, Thatcham, Abingdon, Didcot, Wokingham, Andover, Whitchurch and Alton. It provides mortgages and savings products and has a financial services association with LV= (Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society). Assets at 31 October 2007 were just over £605 million (http://www.newbury.co.uk/uploads/documents/report_and_accounts_oct_2007.pdf).

Like all United Kingdom building societies, it is a mutual organisation owned by its current members.
