The New Zealand ruffe, Schedophilus huttoni, is a medusafish of the family Centrolophidae found in all southern oceans south of latitude 18° S, at depths of up to 1,000 m. Its length is up to 90 cm.
The New Zealand ruffe is plain blackish-grey to brown in color. It occurs at the edge of the continental shelf and near oceanic islands. The adults are demersal on the continental slope in 800 to 1,000 m, subadults and juveniles are found in surface waters.
