The New York State Small Business Development Center was created in 1984. Since its inception in 1984, the NYS SBDC has worked directly with 279,293 businesses, helping them to invest $3,643,521,768 in New York's economy. The NYS SBDC is administered by the State University of New Yorkand is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration ,the State of New York, and host campuses. The NYS SBDC is an accredited affiliate of the national network of Small Business Development Centers and a member of the National Association of Small Business Development Centers.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is a United States government agency that provides support to small businesses.[1] The SBA was created by way of the Small Business Act of July 30, 1953.

The mission of the NYS SBDC is to provide the best business advisement and information to New Yorkers. The SBDC emphasizes counseling and training services to women, veterans, people with special needs, and minority clients. The SBDC also focuses on projects that advance the job development, investment, and economic growth priorities of New York State, with an emphasis on manufacturers, exporters and technology-oriented firms.[2]
