New York State Route 56 is a state highway in northern New York, USA. This highway is a north-south road extending along the eastern part of St. Lawrence County.
The northern terminus is at near the St. Lawrence River at New York State Route 37 in the Town of Louisville, west of the Village of Massena. The southern terminus is at New York State Route 3 at Sevey Corners in the Town of Colton.

NY 56A was an alternate route of NY 56 between Potsdam and Norfolk in St. Lawrence County. The route began in Potsdam, headed northwest to Madrid, then turned northeast and continued to its northern terminus in Norfolk. NY 56A was assigned in 1930[2] and removed in 1980.[3]
