[edit] Monroe County

The westernmost portion of the route is designated as Linden Avenue; the road continues west of Route 96 as Elmwood Avenue. Just east of Route 96, Route 441 crosses over Interstate 490 at exit 23. Route 441 then loses the Linden Avenue marking; Linden Avenue continues parallel to Route 441, before crossing it at an intersection and continuing into East Rochester.

After Linden Avenue leaves the route, Route 441 has no other street name for a while. It briefly enters the Town of Pittsford, where it transitions to a divided highway. Next, the route enters the Town of Penfield. It has one interchange as a highway, with Panorama Trail (New York State Route 153), then returns to being a four-lane undivided road at the intersection with Penfield Road. There, Route 441 picks up the Penfield Road designation.

In Penfield, Route 441 passes through the historic town center, crossing Five Mile Line Road at "Four Corners". A couple of miles east, it enters a commercial district, crossing State Route 250 at "Lloyd's Corners".

Communities

Continuing to the east, Route 441 crosses into the Town of Walworth in Wayne County, becoming Walworth-Penfield Road. NY 441 terminates at NY 350 west of the hamlet of Walworth; however, the roadway continues east as Walworth-Penfield Road, Walworth-Marion Road, and Buffalo Street (CR 205 west of Hall Center Road and Maple Avenue (CR 210); CR 207 east of Hall Center and Maple) to Main Street (CR 216) just east of NY 21 in Marion.

[edit] History

The portion of NY 441 from where Penfield Road leaves NY 441 in Penfield to Walworth was originally designated as part of NY 33 in the 1930 renumbering. West of the Four Corners of Penfield, NY 33 remained on Penfield Road through Penfield and Brighton to the modern intersection of Penfield Road and NY 96 (East Avenue). The route then turned west to follow East Avenue into Rochester.[2] NY 33 was later truncated to its current eastern terminus at NY 31 in downtown Rochester and replaced with NY 441 from NY 96 in Brighton to NY 350 in Walworth between 1947 and 1961.[3][4]

In the early 1970s, NY 441 was rerouted onto a newly-constructed divided highway through Brighton and western Penfield. At the western end, NY 441 was routed onto Linden Avenue to connect to NY 96 southeast of its former terminus.[5][6]
