New York State Route 439 was a state route located in Staten Island and Brooklyn. The designation applied to Forest Avenue on Staten Island and the .75 mile eastern terminus of Victory Boulevard, stretching from the Goethals Bridge to the Bay Ridge Ferry. Across the Narrows, the 439 designation continued along Bay Ridge Avenue, 4th Street and Shore Road Drive, ending at the Belt Parkway. The designation was completely removed by 1972. Despite the number being removed in New York, the number had carried over to New Jersey and still exists today in Elizabeth, New Jersey as Route 439.

[edit] Route description
[edit] Staten Island
New York State Route 439 began at an intersection with Gulf Avenue near the Staten Island Expressway.[5] The road was and is still accessible from Exit 4 on the Staten Island Expressway. It intersects with South Avenue at a traffic light soon after. Passing some minor local roads, Forest Avenue intersects with Richmond Avenue, a main road on Staten Island. State Route 440 interchanged with 439 soon after the Richmond Avenue intersection. Jewett Avenue intersected just southeast of Port Richmond and 439 continued ahead. Clove Road intersected soon after and 439 continued as Forest Avenue until its interchange with Victory Boulevard (NY 439A). There it turned left for the final distance of Victory Boulevard. 439 then crossed the St.George-Bay Ridge Ferry where, 439 entered Brooklyn.

Once in Brooklyn, 439 continued on Bay Ridge Avenue (also known as 69th Street).[4] The road spent a short time on Bay Ridge Avenue, when it turned right onto Fourth Avenue and began to move to the southwest through Brooklyn. Route 439 then turned right onto Shore Road Drive, where it continued to the west until ending at Exit 1 of the Belt Parkway.
[edit] History
Route 439 was established in 1949 for the never-built North Shore Expressway and a continuation of NJ 439. The route number was deleted within Brooklyn in 1964 while Staten Island did not remove shields for Route 439 until 1972. However, some signs remained posted on the road until the late 1970s.[4]
[edit] NY 439A
NY 439A was a spur of NY 439 on Staten Island that connected NY 440 to NY 439 by way of Victory Boulevard.
