New York State Route 421 is a short state highway in the northwestern Adirondacks in New York, connecting NY 30 to Horseshoe Lake in southeastern St. Lawrence County. A narrow, two-laned highway, NY 421 begins at a dead-end parking area adjacent to the lake. The road is rough in parts and lacks a shoulder at most points. The route offers access to several picnic and snowmobile areas. A dead-end sign is posted immediately off NY 30, the only route with which it intersects. The entire road is located in the town of Piercefield, although that name is not posted on NY 421.
[edit] Route description
Route 421 begins at an intersection with New York State Route 30. The highway, known as Paradise Point Road, heads northward, offering access to private residences. Route 421 parallells Round Lake Outlet. Much of 421 is on high, mountainous lands, reaching peaks of 1,800 feet (550 m) high. After 1.6 miles (2.6 km), Paradise Point Road turns off, reaching a dead end on Tupper Lake. The highway turns to the east, makes a dip to the south, heads back to the north, before turning east for the rest of the distance. Route 421 heads to Horseshoe Lake, where it terminates at the Veterans Memorial Camp in Piercefield.[2]
[edit] History
Route 421 was assigned along its current routing in 1938.[3]
