New York State Route 356 was a major thoroughfare in the city of Tonawanda, New York. The road stretched from New York State Route 265 and New York State Route 266 in Tonawanda to New York State Route 270 in Getzville. The 356 designation was removed from the route on January 7, 1988, being replaced by Erie County Routes 580, 301 and 45. The road was known was Young Street, Ellicott Creek Road, Sweet Home Road, and Dodge Road.

Route 356 began at an intersection with NY 265 and NY 266 in downtown Tonawanda.[1] The road begins by going eastward, leaving the downtown area and heading into South Tonawanda. Route 356 crossed Route 384 at .3 of a mile. Route 356 continued along Young Street, intersecting local roads. Route 356 turned onto Ellicott Creek Road at 1 mile and headed towards Amherst. New York State Route 425 interchanged with Route 356 at 1.3 miles, intersecting with local roads afterwards. Route 356 parallelled Ellicott Creek and intersected with U.S. Route 62 at 3.6 miles, where it became South Ellicott Creek Road.[1]

Route 356 turned north on Sweet Home Road, but quickly turned east onto Dodge Road in Bucyrus Heights.[1] Interstate 990 interchanged with Route 356 at 6.3 miles.[citation needed] At 7 miles, New York State Route 270 interchanges in Getzville, terminating at this intersection.

Route 356 was assigned to the routing from North Tonawanda to Getzville in 1935.[3][citation needed] Route 356 was decommissioned on January 7, 1988 and the roads were given to Erie County. Route 356 was changed to Erie CR 580, Erie CR 301 and Erie CR 45.[2][4]
