[edit] Route description
Route 326 begins at an intersection with New York State Route 90 in Springport. The highway heads eastward, parallelling a short original alignment of itself. Much of the area, located near Cayuga Lake, is rural, with the highway passing through downtown Springport. Downtown Springport is mainly houses and fields. Not too far outside of Springport, the highway turns northward at an intersection with two local roads. Soon after, Route 326 turns to the northeast and the official street name becomes State Route 326.[3]
Route 326 heads through more rural areas, intersecting with local roads in Oakwood. The rural highway passes through Oakwood, passing residential homes. At an intersection with Ridge Road, Route 326 changes names to Half Acre Road. The highway continues its northeastern track for a small distance, before turning to the north. Route 326 enters Half Acre, where it turns eastward at an intersection West Genesee Road. Here it parallels NY 5 and US 20 for a distance.[3]
Route 326 continues as West Genesee Street before turning to the north at the Veterans Memorial Parkway. There it enters Auburn and terminates at a small interchange with Routes 5 and 20.[3]
[edit] History
Route 326 was assigned to its current routing by 1936.[2] However, the organisations that maintained the road were different. The state maintained the Oakwood Road and Genesee Street sections, while the county of Cayuga maintained the rest. In 1980, Route 326's alignments were swapped. The state-maintained portions went to the county and the county-maintained portions went to the state. Route 326 is now maintained by the county as Cayuga County Routes 168A, 168B, and 1.[4]
