New York State Route 260 is a north-south state highway located entirely in Monroe County in western New York. The southern terminus of the route is at NY 31 in the town of Sweden and its northern terminus is at the Lake Ontario State Parkway near Shore Acres.
[edit] Route description
Heading north from NY 31, NY 260, aptly named Sweden-Walker Road for the two communities it connects, proceeds to the north-northeast through the town of Sweden, crossing the Erie Canal and entering Clarkson. East of Clarkson's town center, NY 260 comes in contact with NY 104.
Continuing on its north-northeast path, NY 260 receives a new name in the Hamlin hamlet of Walker, where the road becomes Walker-Lake Ontario Road at an intersection with NY 18. North of NY 18, NY 260 takes a more northerly alignment as it continues as a county-maintained road toward its northern terminus on the Lake Ontario State Parkway in Shore Acres less than a 1/4 mile south of the Lake Ontario shoreline where the road dead ends.
[edit] History
NY 260 was assigned to its current alignment south of North Hamlin Road by 1938.[2] The route was extended a short distance northward to meet the Lake Ontario State Parkway by 1961.[3]
