[edit] Wyoming County
NY 238 begins at Halls Corners at US 20A in the town of Orangeville as Halls Corners Road, heading north, passing near Dream Lake Campground, located east on Buffalo Road. 238 makes a slight turn to the northwest and enters the town of Attica. Encountering the south terminus of Wyoming CR 42 and the east terminus of Wyoming CR 39 as it passes through Attica Center, 238 turns north again and passes the east edge of the Attica and Wyoming Correctional Facilities, more prominently the work farm operated by the facilities. Just before entering the Village of Attica 238 turns east, taking over East Main Street from Wyoming CR 19 as it passes the Attica Central Middle & High Schools and enters the village. Passing quietly through mostly residential areas of the village, it enters the business district and connects with the north terminus of Wyoming CR 31 (Exchange Street) before descending into the Tonawanda Creek basin and meeting with NY 98. 238 turns north and runs concurrent with 98 for 1/3 mile, before 238 turns northeast and enters Genesee County.
[edit] Genesee County
238 continues in its northwest direction into the town of Alexander and then the town of Darien. It closely follows Norfolk Southern Railway's Buffalo Line through this area, and is mirrored by Genesee CR 45 on the opposite side of the tracks, which terminates at 238 on both its west and east termini. As a result, many roads which used to cross the tracks in this area have been cut in half, including Genesee CR 36, eliminating the requirement to maintain crossings. After CR 45's western terminus, 238 turns more northward again, entering a residential area and terminating at US 20 in Darien City.
