Communities

From NY 5 in Stafford, NY 237 heads north to Morganville, where the route takes on a northeast alignment for a brief distance before resuming a northerly alignment south of the New York State Thruway (I-90). NY 237 then crosses over the Thruway and meets NY 33, which parallels the Thruway along this stretch. The route continues north through South Byron, passing under the CSX Rochester Subdivision here, before approaching Byron. In the town center, NY 237 meets NY 262.

The route continues north through the hamlet of Pumpkin Hill before crossing into Orleans County.

[edit] Orleans County

Just north of the county line, NY 237 passes through Honest Hill. Farther north, the route meets NY 31A in Clarendon. Between Clarendon and Holley, NY 237 takes on a northeast alignment. The route returns to a northern alignment at the Falls Road Railroad south of the village. In the center of Holley, NY 237 intersects NY 31. To the north of the village, the route crosses over the Erie Canal.

Now in the town of Murray, NY 237 meets NY 104 (Ridge Road). The two routes form a concurrency west to the hamlet of Murray, where NY 237 breaks from NY 104 and continues north.

In Kendall, NY 237 meets NY 18 south of the town center. The route continues north to Lake Ontario State Parkway, where it terminates at an interchange with the Parkway. This section of NY 237 is maintained by Orleans County as CR 57A (Kendall Road) from NY 18 to CR 13 (Carr Road) and CR 70 (Kendall Road) from CR 13 to the LOSP (Reference Route 947A). CR 70 actually continues about less than 1/4 mile north to a dead end at Lake Ontario.

[edit] History

NY 237 was assigned in the 1930 renumbering to its current alignment between NY 5 and what is now NY 104.[2] It was extended north to Kendall by 1952.[3]
